techno, electronica, and experimental music…

  • Decoder: Retro Liminal

    https://illegalalienrecords.bandcamp.com/album/retro-liminal

The world of electronic music is always expanding. And there is always more to discover than you ever knew existed. Illegal Alien Records has more than 420 releases on Bandcamp, so I have a lot of discovering to do. The label was founded in 2007 and represents the struggle of many immigrants to the US, who are written off with this unfair status.

Liminal means “a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold.” To me, Retro Liminal by Decoder represents something both old and new. Taking inspiration from everything before it and creating something new push out into the ever expanding universe for us to enjoy.

  • Teplo: Nano Storm

    https://monokraknetlabel.bandcamp.com/album/monokrak59-teplo-nano-storm

The minimal techno bangers apparently never stop at monoKraK. Teplo caught my eye, because Nano Storm might be the best name ever fathomed for a minimal techno EP !?

“Teplo” is a Russian word meaning heat. The aptly named artist delivers a small back catalog of fire tracks available on Soundcloud ( soundcloud.com/teplo ) but unfortunately it ends in 2010.

I can’t wait to continue diving into the the catalog at monoKraK netlabel to see what other minimal gems there are to discover.

  • Floating Mind: Audio Ovni

    https://monokraknetlabel.bandcamp.com/album/monokrak57-floating-mind-audio-ovni

Sometimes I find random stuff while searching on Bandcamp and it opens a wormhole to another dimension that I never imagined existed. Exhibit 1: monoKraK netlabel. (monokrak.net)

This album appears to be catalog code “57”. But upon visiting the site the catalog numbers seem to surge to “306”. I can only assume they have recently begun uploading their massive back catalog to Bandcamp. I couldn’t even find the original release date for Audio Ovni, which appears to blast back to before 2013.

Floating Mind is a prolific artist and from what I can see, makes up the majority of monoKraK releases. Every track I checked out was a beautifully constructed piece of minimal techno. This unlocked wormhole could keep you busy for years…

  • Linear System: Turiban

    https://moleculartechno.bandcamp.com/album/linear-system-turiban

“Linear System” is such a cool name. When AI becomes self aware and enslaves the human race, I’m going to sneak into the hive mind center and ask it to come up with a cooler name for a techno producer. Systems will malfunction and everything will explode around me. I will die a hero.

A cool name only gets you so far. Fortunately, the tracks back up the vibe. This four track EP delivers the deep and hypnotic techno jams that we all love. Our AI overlords will probably outlaw this music because it far surpasses their feeble algorithmic capabilities.

  • Rene Wise: Deprivation

    https://enemyrecords.bandcamp.com/album/deprivation

More bangers from Enemy Records… who would have thought? The label never misses. These tracks from Rene Wise are essentially a masterwork of minimal techno. Chill, yet driving. Stripped back, yet packed with movement. Familiar, yet pulsing with discovery.

“Anxiety” and “Insomnia” hit hard when you think about the intention of each track. “Sakar” saws my brain in half and slaps it back together the wrong way. “Cutting Thick” makes me hit repeat. Don’t miss this one.

  • Dialog: DOT 2 (feat. Benji & Josei)

    https://dialogsound.bandcamp.com/album/dot-2-feat-benji-josei

Genres are pretty much meaningless. Think about this; I have a blog dedicated to finding cool techno. Most of which is instrumental, four on the floor, synth driven jams. But this release was tagged with “techno” and absolutely doesn’t fit. BUT, it still absolutely vibes hard.

I don’t know what genre this actually is, but it’s so cool it doesn’t matter. You will be banging your head against a wall to try to loose the earworm vocals from “If You Know”; but like, in a very good way. “High Grade” is the most abstract jam on this four track release. It’s slow, meandering, and makes my brain buzz.

  • SOMA NEU Vol. 1-4

    https://soma-records.bandcamp.com/album/soma-neu-vol-4

I’m a sucker for a good techno compilation. And good techno compilations don’t come any better than this. The series is currently releasing volume 4 on August 5th, 2025. They’re not offering any previews on Bandcamp, but if the first three volumes are any indication… it is sure to be packed full of bangers.

Soma Records, headed by Slam, is one of the most consistent labels in techno. You can blindly pick up every release on the label and never be disappointed. Actually, I should probably be assuming that you already know this label and own these records. If not, you have an amazing world of techno to dive into!

  • Flits: Adrenaline [FLITS018]

    https://flitshvb.bandcamp.com/album/adrenaline-flits018

Wait, wait, wait… I did it. Last post I said “master by Flits” was ungoogleable. Well, I put in a bit more effort and found them! By way of Bandcamp, from Soundcloud, from the second page of Google! And I am sure glad I made the trip!

Flits’ bio states that they have a focus on techno with a high intensity and a dark, groovy or hypnotic vibe. Um, yeah… me too! Adrenaline gets things moving. Octagon takes it up a notch! Intimidate has a nice big kick. And Castle rounds us out with a stone solid groove. If you’re here reading this, then just buy the album (or whole discography.)

  • Sons of Geometry: Lightstrands

    https://sonsofgeometry.bandcamp.com/track/lightstrands

Hove you ever just clicked on something randomly and been blown completely away? Yeah, so I get tons of emails from Bandcamp and this was a seemingly random suggestion, presented to me amongst many other albums. Something about the name, Sons of Geometry, just screamed at me, “THIS IS SOMETHING YOU WILL LIKE!”

So, I don’t know anything about this project and there doesn’t seem to be much online in the way of links to check out. The short bio simply reads, “Exploration into the depths of improvised, modular synthesis.” And what more do we need, really?

  • Kyoka: Is (Is Superpowered)

    https://raster-raster.bandcamp.com/album/is-is-superpowered

Part of this blog is about finding new music. The other side is diving back and sharing old favorites. This album was released on May 5th, 2014, which is right around the time I started producing music as Clone 334.

Every time I listen to Is (Is Superpowered), I hear something new. The production is jam packed with raw energy. While it doesn’t fall directly in line with “traditional” techno, it belongs right there along side of it. These tracks could all easily be thrown into a playlist or DJ set to add variety and progression. You have to hear this one.
